    'Prelude: Happiness' is oddly titled, sounding menacing rather than happy, though it points toward the band's later music. 'Mandrake Root' has a similar groove to 'And The Address' and is the albums most experimental song, featuring a few twists and turns/5().

    The usual perception of early Deep Purple is that it was a band with a lot of potential in search of a direction. And that might be true of their debut LP, put together in three days of sessions in May of , but it's still a hell of an album.8/

    Shades of Deep Purple is the debut studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple, released in July on Tetragrammaton in the United States and in September on Parlophone in the United Kingdom. The band, initially called Roundabout, was the idea of former Searchers drummer Chris Curtis, who recruited Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore before leaving the project.

    "Shades of Deep Purple" is a pretty good but not wildly impressive debut album by Deep Purple but I wish that they wouldn´t have included those cover tunes. An album full of original tunes would have earned them a 3 star rating but with the cover tracks I can only give the album a star rating/5(42).

    / "Shades Of Deep Purple" is the debut LP of Deep Purple, one of the inventors of Heavy Metal. But Shades Of Deep Purple is (and this in not only my opinion) a great example of Psychedelic Proto Prog malbum. In this album is present "Hush", a great Joe South cover, a hit in USA and DP evergreen.
